THE City Government of Bacolod is now planning to put up a pedestrian mall on Fr. Ferrero Street in Barangay 12, in front of the old Manokan Country building.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said the City will install a dome on Fr. Ferrero Street from the corner of Rizal Street to Burgos Street.
He said they City has allocated P50 million for the implementation of the project.
“We see an economic activity in Fr. Ferrero Street, fronting the old Manokan Country building and SM City terminal hub, so we will convert it into a pedestrian mall, which can be a night market, and during day time, we will allow vehicles to pass by in the area,” he added.
The mayor noted that the area will accommodate all the vendors who are willing to do a business on Fr. Ferrero St.
Benitez said he will task the City’s market board to determine the kinds of good that will be displayed at the pedestrian mall.
The City already demolished the Monokan Country building for a 40-year redevelopment program by SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SM Prime) for an upgraded version of Manokan Country.
All tenants of Manokan country have relocated to temporary spaces at the SM City terminal hub.
Manokan Country had a total of 27 tenants, but only 26 were operating in the area.
Of the 26, 24 agreed to transfer to the temporary space at SM City’s terminal hub, while the two others found alternative locations for their businesses. (MAP)
