BACOLOD City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, now congressman-elect, has ordered the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office (Benro) to lead the “Operation Baklas” of the election campaign materials in various areas in the city.

Ma. Fe Trespuentes, Benro head, said that right after the election on May 12, the mayor directed them to start the removal of election campaign materials.

She said the Benro personnel will also assist the barangays with the removal of the campaign materials, especially on the main roads that are covered by their street sweeping activities.

“We need the cooperation of the barangay officials so we can remove all the election campaign materials for the cleanliness of the city,” Trespuentes added.

Trespuentes noted that the Solid Waste Management Division of Western-Visayas also appealed to the local government units to collect the campaign materials, especially tarpaulins, so they can recycle them instead of dumping them in the landfill.

She said the barangays can collect the tarpaulins within their areas of jurisdiction, and then Benro will collect and deliver them to the city’s recycling plant in Barangay Felisa.

She added that both winning and losing candidates should also help the barangays remove their tarpaulins.

Trespuentes said that this is a synchronized activity in Bacolod City, and they are hopeful that the barangays, as well as the candidates, will help maintain the city's clean and green program. (MAP)
