The Provincial Census Coordinating Board (PCCB) held its First Coordinative Meeting related to Census of Agriculture and Fisheries, held at the Capitol Social Hall, June 13.

The census aims to provide valuable data and insights into the state of agriculture and fisheries in Negros Occidental that will lead the provincial government to make informed decisions and effective policies.

Present at the meeting were Chief Statistical Specialist of PSA Bacolod City, Luis Gonzales, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) OIC Gerla Sario, OIC PopDev Officer Charissa Mercado – Lipa, PCCB members, and representatives from concerned agencies and organizations.

Governor Bong Lacson said that the census will help identify the challenges faced by farmers and fisherfolk such as access to credit, infostructure, market opportunities, training, including techniques and technologies being used.

He also said that with the information gathered, the province can create focused programs and initiatives to deal with the various issues and offer the support required to improve productivity, boost earnings, and uplift the lives of the Negrense farmers, fisherfolks, and communities dependent on agriculture and fisheries.
