Escalante farmers get calamity assistance

THE Hacienda Anita Agrarian Reform Cooperative (HAARC) at Barangay Dian-ay in Escalante City has provided calamity cash assistance to its members and other farm workers recently.

The agrarian reform beneficiaries organization (Arbo) is assisted by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Negros Occidental - North.

Recipients are 53 member-ARBs and farm workers receiving a total of P205,500 in cash assistance.

This fund was taken from the revenue and capital gains they have earned out of their harvest from the previous crop year.

DAR-Negros Occidental I, in a statement, said the distribution of the cash aid is a laudable act by the cooperative.

This will somehow lessen possible adverse effects of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic like income deficiency due to farm inactivity.

HAARC has a total of 36 ARBs located at Hacienda Anita and manages the 33-hectare land acquired under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (Carp).

“We will continually capacitate and mold the various organizations in the province to be an effective, efficient and model associations and citizens of the nation,” it added.
