NegOcc vets hold anti-rabies activities

THE Provincial Veterinary District Field Units III, V and VI, in collaboration with local government units, initiated various activities to culminate the Rabies Awareness Month celebration.

In District III, elementary students from different schools were involved in an information education campaign (IEC).

The activity was held in Sitio Balogo Elementary School in Talisay City, Bagtic Elementary School and Lantad Elementary School in Silay City.

The campaign is anchored on the theme, “Makiisa sa barangayan kontra rabies. Maging responsableng pet owner.”

It was participated by students, parents and teachers. They learned about rabies and how to become responsible pet owners.

In District V, a dog walk was conducted in collaboration with the Municipal Agriculture Office of Hinigaran.

Fifty-eight dog lovers joined the activity followed by an IEC on rabies awareness held at the Hinigaran Negosyo Center.

Dr. Irish June Natalio of Fanfreluche Enterprise Inc., discussed the proper dog care as guide for pet owners.

Participants were urged to adopt in their barangays the existing Municipal Rabies Ordinance to strengthen the plan of controlling the deadly rabies virus.

In District VI, meanwhile, extended various services such as consultation, deworming, rabies vaccination, heart worm prevention test, stool exam, skin scrapping to dogs and cats and IEC about rabies.

There was also a discussion on the proper dog care as guide for pet owners.

The Provincial Veterinary Office, in a statement, lauded the efforts of its field units in three districts.

PVO said this enabled stakeholders to play their role in promoting public health and concern through proper information education on the risk of rabies and its prevention and eradication. (EPN)
