Negros Occidental, Korean county ink deal for organic agri development

THE Provincial Government of Negros Occidental and Goesan County, Republic of Korea have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the development of organic agriculture in their respective areas.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Lee Cha Young, representing Goesan County, signed the MOU in a virtual meeting on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

Edgardo "Boyet" Uychiat of Negros Occidental, who was elected Board Member of International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (Ifoam) Asia and first vice president of the Executive Board, also witnessed the signing.

Considered the Philippines' leader in terms of organic agriculture, Negros Occidental currently has over 17,000 organic farming practitioners with about 16,000 hectares of farms devoted to organic production.

The Provincial Government, in a statement, said the agreement intends to build up mutual cooperation between the two governments and reaffirm their commitment for the advancement of organic agriculture.

The MOU is also geared toward promoting activities related to the development of organic agriculture in the countries of the two governments.

It stated that both parties intend to implement, jointly and in coordination with the partners, activities based on the proposals discussed and approved by mutual agreement.

Such activities may include exchange of organic specialists to develop new proposals, provide technology expertise, training and education, monitor project delivery and assess outcomes, jointly with partners, it added. (With Capitol report)
