PhilRice allots P68.5M worth of seeds for NegOcc

The Province of Negros Occidental is set to receive rice seeds allocation amounting to P68,474,480 from the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund - Seed Program starting October this year until February 2024.

Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Office of the Provincial Agrculturist OIC Dina Genzola received the symbolic certificate from the Philippine Rice Institute (PhilRice) officials during the opening of the two-day Lakbay Palay activity at Brgy. Cansilayan in Murcia on Thursday, Oct. 12.

Negros Occidental will get a total seed allocation of 90,098 bags of seeds at 20 kilograms per bag with an estimated coverage area of 41,543 hectares was turned over ceremonially to the provincial government which will then be distributed to the farmers of the 32 local government units. 

Lacson expressed his gratitude to PhilRice Negros for their continued support as steadfast partner in promoting agriculture programs in the province.

The Lakbay Palay is a regular activity of PhilRice aimed at showcasing to farmers various rice production technologies and processes that would ultimately help cities and towns reach rice sufficiency and supply.

More than 1,000 farmers attended the event which included various field and exhibit tours, and training.

Also present during the activity were PhilRice DED for Development Dr. Karen Eloisa Barroga, DED for Research Representative Dr. Hazel Alfon, RCEF PMO Director Dr. Flordeliza Bordey, Villar Sipag Foundation Representative Arjay Venuse, Branch Director Leo Sta. Ines, Asst. Branch Director Albert Suner, and Cansilayan Brgy. Captain Alan Baliguas.*
