THE Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Negros Occidental has distributed 40,000 doses of rabies vaccine to different local government units (LGUs) in the province.

Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena led the distribution during the kick-off ceremony of the province's Rabies Awareness Month celebration at the covered court in Silay City on Monday, March 8, 2021.

Themed "Maging Responsableng Amo Huwag Hayaang Gumala ang Alagang Pusa't Aso," the activity was in collaboration with Silay City Government.

During the launching, the PVO also conducted an information education campaign (IEC) about rabies.

Decena discussed the role of proper dog care and responsible pet ownership in the bid to attain a rabies-free community.

Various services such as consultation, deworming, rabies vaccination, fecalysis, heartworm prevention test, skin test and direct microfilaria test were also given.

The participants included personnel of Provincial Veterinary District Field Unit III, veterinarians and laboratory personnel of the PVO, and various pet associations, among others.

As part of the month-long celebration, there will also be a spay and neuter program in Silay City on March 15 and 29.

Decena said that participants and pet owners lauded the initiative and collaboration of the provincial government through the PVO and city government.

"This enabled them to take an active stance in their role in promoting public health and concern through proper information education on the risk of rabies and how to curb and totally eradicate it," he added.

Also present at the activity was Vice Mayor Tom Ledesma representing Mayor Mark Andrew Arthur Golez.
