Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) once again ranked among the top-performing schools in the Philippines during the November 2024 Civil Engineers Licensure Examination (CELE).
CHMSU secured second place with a passing rate of 91.38%, as 53 out of 58 examinees from the university successfully passed the exam.
“We give them challenging problems to hone their critical and analytical thinking skills,” said Engr. Grace Gerona, dean of the College of Engineering, on how CHMSU prepares students for the CELE.
The national passing rate for the CELE was 37.09%.
While CHMSU celebrates this second-place achievement, Engr. Gerona emphasized that it brings the challenge of maintaining their high performance.
“It means a lot of hard work and more resources to stay relevant and continue producing graduates who are not only equipped for the licensure exam but also for the professional work that follows,” the college dean explained.
The university ranked alongside the University of the Philippines-Diliman (Rank 1) and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (Rank 3) in the list of top-performing schools, each with 50 or more examinees and at least an 80% overall passing rate.
“To our new CHMSU civil engineers, this is the reward for all your hard work and sacrifices. We are truly happy for you and your family. As you embark on your journey as professionals, we pray for the Lord's wisdom and guidance to lead you along the way,” Gerona said.
Previously, CHMSU ranked third among the top-performing schools in the CELE with a passing rate of 91.7%.
“This setback is only temporary. You, too, will soon acquire that license to practice the profession. Just hold on to your dreams and patiently wait for the Lord's perfect timing,” Gerona added.
