CITING the turnout on the first day of the voter registration period for the December 2025 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Friday, August 1, 2025, said it is confident of meeting the projected one million registrants by the end of the 10-day registration period.
In an interview during the Indigenous Peoples (IP) Satellite Registration activity in Mabalacat City, Pampanga, Comelec Chairman George Garcia said they are optimistic about registering one million individuals between August 1 and 10.
"There are so many people at the Luneta registration site now. There are also so many registrants in the UE (University of the East) site, as well as in different parts of the country," said Garcia.
"Hopefully, we will be able to reach our target of 1 million new voters in the 10 days," he added.
Garcia said they are also hoping to achieve the same among the IP communities, which is estimated to be at 500,000.
"Hopefully, we will be able to register at least 100,000 IPs from today until August 10," said the poll chief.
He said achieving the target number despite the limited voter registration period is the reason why they want to hold as many satellite registration sites as possible.
"We are bringing the voter registration activities closer to them," said Garcia.
On Friday, the Comelec opened the 10-day voter registration period nationwide.
Voter registration activities will be open in all Offices of Election Officer and in satellite registration sites from Mondays to Sundays, including holidays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Anton Banal/SunStar Philippines)
