THE Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) in Bacolod City will distribute financial assistance until April 30, 2025 only and will resume after the May 12 elections.
This was after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) earlier issued a reminder to local government units (LGUs) that the distribution of financial assistance or “ayuda” is prohibited 10 days before the May 12 national and local elections.
Richelle Verdeprado-Mangga, DSSD head, said they will follow the Comelec Resolution 11060, or the rules and regulations on the prohibition against the release, disbursement, or expenditure of public fund for social services.
She said this will include the distribution of Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS), Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (Tupad), Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), Ayuda para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (Akap), and “Bayad agad.”
“We will follow the guidelines and we will stop the releasing 10 days before the election day,” she added.
Verdeprado-Mangga noted that the Bacolodnons can still process their documents at the Bacolod City Government Center and they will schedule the payout after May 12.
Bacolod City earlier received a certificate of exemption from the Comelec for the implementation of the social services program of the city, but Verdeprado-Mangga said they will follow the new Comelec ruling on the distribution of the assistance.
Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia earlier said that violators will face charges for violation of the Omnibus Election Code, which is punishable by imprisonment. (MAP)
