Estrada, Lacson, 5 others charged in US

FORMER President Joseph Estrada and Senator Panfilo Lacson were charged before a US court in San Francisco in connection with the November 2000 abduction and killings of publicist Salvador Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito.

The bases of the civil case, filed by Dacer's two daughters Carina and Sabina, are the alien Tort Act in the US code and Torture Victim Protection Act of 1991.

Other respondents include businessman Dante Tan, former Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation CEO Butch Tenorio, former police officers Michael Ray Aquino, Glen Dumlao, and Vicente Arnado.

According to Sabina, they will all do their best to achieve justice for their father citing the slow justice system in the Philippines.

The family is also asking for US$50 million--US$10 million for compensatory damages and US$40 million for punitive damages. (Sunnex)
