A LAWMAKER from Bacolod City in Negros Occidental has sought an investigation on an anonymous social media post that appeared to be a veiled threat against his life.
Rep. Greg Gasataya reported the matter to the Bacolod City Police Office and the Anti-Cybercrime, saying on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, that he takes such threats seriously.
The social media post shows Gasataya sitting on a couch. In the upper part of the image, there are three praying hand emojis and the text “1970 – 2025,” which suggests it is a tribute or memorial image.
“I take such actions seriously, not only as a public servant but also as someone who values life and the well-being of my family and loved ones,” he said.
“Let me make this clear: Threats, intimidation and fear-mongering have no place in our community and certainly not in our democracy,” he added.
Gasataya said they will never tolerate violence, whether physical, verbal or psychological.
“I despise these desperate political tactics and will not allow them to distract me from performing my duties with diligence and integrity in serving Bacolod City,” he said.
Gasataya, who filed his certificate of candidacy for mayor in the 2025 midterm elections last October, said he remains committed to ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
“I take to heart the commitment we made when we filed our candidacy at the Commission on Elections for elections free of violence,” he said.
He also urged Bacolodnons to remain vigilant and to speak out against any form of threat or intimidation.
“Let us not allow these despicable acts and behaviors to disrupt the peace we worked so hard to achieve and maintain,” he said. (MAP)
