THE coronavirus pandemic has rendered a significant number of people into feeling stressed and anxious given the negative conditions caused by the unseen virus.

There is no cure for now but it's good that many have recovered from the infection. It is also noteworthy that of the numbers of coronavirus-positive individuals, only a few are critical patients.

Sadly, Bacolod City is now number 1 in Western Visayas.

Good thing, under the general community quarantine (GCQ), residents can still go out to engage in physical exercises like jogging, walking, biking, or any outdoor exercise as long as one observes the standard health protocol of physical distancing, wearing of a face mask, frequent washing of hands and taking a bath immediately when you get home.

I choose biking as my preferred outdoor exercise given the fact that my home is located in an uphill village in Bacolod and biking best fits my need for a physical exercise.

Are there health benefits from biking?

Yes, I was able to sweat in the course or my biking and this means that I naturally detoxify my body of any components that are harmful.

I was able to enhance my cardiovascular fitness which is very important when you are gracefully aging.

Biking also boosts muscle strength and flexibility and improve joint mobility.

It also reduces stress levels which we could not avoid when we are physically and mentally idle due to the pandemic.

Biking truly helps energize our physical body.

We can do the household chores and do our work at home after we are energized through biking.

One can ride his or her bike and can take off alone or with someone whom you know is safe to be with. As long as there is physical distancing and you use a face mask, that's already your common protection when going outside with a purpose.

After biking, it is always best to stay at home.
