A TOTAL of 1,408 motorcycle riders in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental joined the simultaneous launching of campaign plan “Clean Riders” of the Philippine National Police (PNP) nationwide Wednesday.

The “Clean Rider” campaign aims for more vigorous, focused, and effective campaign to totally eliminate crimes committed by motorcycle-riding suspects.

In Bacolod City, 608 riders received two free serialized stickers after they have completed the requirements and submitted their licenses and OR/CR.

The stickers have markings for security purposes to prevent tampering or duplication of fake ones.

BCPO held the launching at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) after a motorcade from the public plaza around 6:30 a.m.

It was followed by a signing of the oath of commitment and support on the campaign at BCGC.

Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, public information officer of BCPO, in a press conference at the BCPO headquarters Wednesday, said these riders have been thoroughly inspected and validated.

“They will now be included in a database wherein police have their identification for security purposes,” Gabana said.

Gabana said these riders will automatically be part of force multipliers that can reinforce or augment the BCPO in their campaign against criminalities.

At present, the BCPO has more than 1,000 force multipliers which include barangay peacekeeping action teams, and non-volunteer groups, and volunteers.

There are also 135 riders whose documents are still pending for approval and verification.

“They will be given stickers once they have complied with the requirements,” Gabana said.

They will have to pay P35 each for the stickers.

The purpose of the activity is to address the crimes perpetrated by motorcycle-riding suspects and to address motornapping incidents. It also aims for clean, safe, and secured riders.

With such campaign plan, Gabana said they can monitor the motorcycles of these riders and solve future motornapping cases.

In Negros Occidental, 800 motorcycle riders have completed the same requirements.

Of the total number, 150 riders came from the third and fourth districts, 350 from first and second districts, and 300 from fifth and sixth districts participated in the campaign, said Senior Inspector Aireen Cordua, public information officer of Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo).

The launching was simultaneously held in cities of Bago, Cadiz, and Kabankalan.

Individuals who own motorcycles are urged to register and fill out an application form in police stations under their area of jurisdiction.

The registration is open to all motorcycle riders and enthusiasts, including those working in the government.

Meanwhile, Bacolod City Acting Vice Mayor Ricardo Tan is supporting the PNP campaign plan “Clean Rider” in the country.

Tan, who led the launching at the city hall yesterday, said it is a very comprehensive program that focuses on educating the motorcycle riders.

“I am happy that our police officers have adopted and implemented this program to ensure the safety of the public against the bad elements,” Tan said.

He said this will not only save lives but will encourage the community to drive safety. (with reports from Merlinda A. Pedrosa)
