165 persons arrested for violating curfew

A TOTAL of 165 persons in Bacolod City were arrested by Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) for violating curfew hours from August 14 and 15.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico, spokesperson of BCPO, said the 165 persons were arrested by personnel of Police Stations 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 and Mobile Patrol Group (MPG) for violating curfew hours from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

He said on August 15, a total of 73 violators were arrested in various barangays and another 92 violators were arrested on August 14.

The violators were given a citation ticket and those who are Bacolod residents were fined P500 while non-residents were fined P800.

Pico said those who failed to pay penalties were endorsed to the barangay for a community service.

The long hour curfew is part of the city’s campaign to curb the transmission of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and it will run until August 22.

The new curfew hours is provided in Executive Order (EO) No. 52, Series of 2020 to implement City Ordinance (CO) No. 934, which amended CO No. 927, the city’s original curfew ordinance, setting the curfew hours from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Meanwhile, an estimated P36, 120 worth of shabu or methamphetamine hydrochloride was seized in a drug bust by operatives of Police Station 1 at Purok Malipayon, Baragay 35, Bacolod City Friday evening.

The operation also led to the arrest of Roger Flores, 30, of Purok Kingfisher A, Barangay 16.

Police Major Jovil Sedel, chief of Police Station 1, said the suspect was arrested after he sold a sachet of shabu to a police undercover at about 11:30 p.m.

Police recovered from Flores’s possession 19 sachets of shabu weighing 5.16 grams, the P300 marked money and drug paraphernalia.

Sedel said the suspect was under surveillance for almost a month before his arrest.

The suspect is detained at the custodial facility of Police Station 1 and facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
