THEFT charges were filed Wednesday, August 3, 2022, against a woman and his two cohorts for stealing the cellular phones owned by the vice mayor of Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental.

Case investigator Corporal Rogyn Bandola identified those who were charged as Wowie Uy, 30, of Zone 1, Barangay Tabao in Valladolid; Melvin Cosio, 34, of Antonio Luna, Barangay Mambulac in Silay City; and his neighbor Rose Linao, 31.

Vice Mayor Miguel Zayco, 39, of Don Emilio Phase 2 in the city's Barangay 9, told the police that he was at the public plaza attending the closing rites of the 25th Charter Anniversary when he noticed that his two cellular phones were missing from his shoulder bag.

Zayco said one of his cellular phones is valued at P70,000, while the other one is P60,000.

Through the phone's Global Positioning System (GPS), they were able to locate the suspects' whereabouts and arrest them while they were trying to escape on board a motorcycle at the national highway of Sitio Naga in Barangay Suay in the nearby Himamaylan City.

Bandola said they are yet to determine if the suspects have other criminal records in the province.
