BAGO City Mayor Nicholas Yulo said Friday, July 13, that concerned government agencies agreed to a 30-day work stoppage on the road widening that involves the controversial cutting of trees along Sum-ag Abuanan Road.
Yulo said that the concerned agencies involved are the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Public Works and Highways and the City Government of Bago.
He said that the inventory of cut trees and branches will also be conducted.
The regional office of the DENR is also expected to issue the pertinent permits relative to the works to be done to give way for the road widening project.
Another dialogue meeting is set among the concerned government agencies to solve the issue on Thursday next week, Yulo added.
The Organization of International Spiritual and Cultural Advancement (Oisca) in Bago represented by couple Shigemi and Thelma Watanabe and concerned citizens raised opposition to the cutting of trees through the mainstream and social media and a signature campaign has also been launched.
Watanabe expressed his disagreement with the cutting of trees along Abuanan Road in Bago City as they were instrumental in planting and growing those trees that shaded the streets as the tree branches overlapped each other.
