SOME 300 residents of Cauayan town, Negros Occidental, who were affected by recent floods, have received goods and monetary assistance from non-government organization Padayona Inday Sara Movement recently.

The recipients were from Barangays Man-uling and Poblacion whose homes were either destroyed or damaged.

Most of their homes were damaged or destroyed by muddy floodwater that swept away their belongings.

The affected residents claimed that the situation was caused by the release of the dam water to prevent the reservoir from overflowing after days of heavy rain.

The flood lasted for three days, it said.

The Padayona Inday Sara Movement, in a statement, said the assistance was given in an effort to at least alleviate the residents’ plight and ensure that they had ample food and water while they are preoccupied with cleaning their muddied homes and washing their soiled clothes.

Barangay Poblacion Kagawad Leo Mamigo expressed gratitude to the group for again heeding the call of the affected residents while Barangay Health Worker Gina Dehillo expressed her appreciation for the group’s quick response

Earlier, the group was also in Cauayan to conduct a medical mission.

They are spearheaded by Alliance and Broadcasting Committee (ABC) co-conveners Police Colonel William Señoron and Prince Almer Buño.

The Padayona Inday Sara movement focuses on engaging the various sectoral groups through socio-civic endeavors aimed at improving the way of life of every citizen of Negros Occidental, which they only see happening if Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is able to pick up where President Rodrigo Duterte will leave off when he finishes his term next year.

Buño mentioned that the group’s activities, like providing timely assistance to those who most need it, are their way to express their desire for the Davao City Mayor to succeed the incumbent president.

He said they have more planned for Negros Occidental, and we continue to hope that Ma’am Sara will reconsider.

Duterte-Carpio filed her certificate of candidacy seeking for reelection on October 2, but many are still hoping that she withdraws from the mayoral race and instead declares her candidacy for president before the deadline Frid, October 8.
