7-kg tuna caught in 2nd Vamos Fishing Tilt

A 6.9-KILOGRAM yellow fin tuna with a length of 71 centimeters emerged as the best catch during the 2nd Vamos San Carlos Fishing Tournament at the Marina Wharf on July 8-9.

Organized by San Carlos City thru the Nabingkalan Anglers Club, at least 80 participants from the cities of San Carlos, Bacolod, and Sipalay in Negros Occidental; cities of Bayawan, Guihulngan, and Tanjay and Municipality of Vallehermoso in Negros Oriental; and Cebu City joined the competition.

James Babor of Aquahookers Club from Tanjay City snagged the winning catch and bagged the P15,000 prize in the Jigging Category.

Rio Belleza of Twilight Aquamarine Club of Bacolod City, with his 5.1 kg and 89-cm-long King Mackerel, took the second spot and P10,000 while Carlo Selma of San Carlos Anglers Club got the P5,000 prize as the 3rd winner with his 4.8 kg and 4.8 cm long King Mackerel.

Meanwhile, in the Casting Category, Jushua Tulabig of Larena Angler's Club from Guihulngan was the champion and got the P5,000 cash. Tulabig caught a 340-gram Needlefish that measures 57 centimeters.

Eugene Algarme of San Carlos Anglers Club, who caught a 320-gram Checkered Snapper with a length of 26.5 cm, was 1st runner-up and got P3K, while Christian Manaquil of Tanjay Anglers Club was 2nd runner-up. The latter hooked a Leather Jacket Fish that weigh 220 grams and measured 20 centimeters.

Aside from the cash prizes, winners also received trophies.

Julio Castro of the Tribu Kibyas Club from Bacolod City got the Most Number of Catch Award, while Johnver Rigor of San Carlos Anglers Club, who hooked a Thresher Shark, received the Rare Catch Award.

Alvin Pastetio, Chairman of the 2nd Vamos San Carlos Fishing Tournament said they are promoting fishing competition in San Carlos City since the area is conducive for fishing and to boost the tourism industry.

Said fishing activity was near the Whispering Palms Island Resort on Sipaway Island. (PR)
