Key NegOcc officials meet for merger announcement

NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, and former Fourth District representative Jeffrey Ferrer had a final meeting on Monday, October 1, for the joint announcement of the merger between Love Negros and United Negros Alliance (Unega) on Wednesday at Nature's Village Hotel and Resort.

The groups will also announce the Lacson-Ferrer tandem for the top provincial posts in the 2019 elections.

This was confirmed by Lacson, who heads Love Negros, along with Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez, on Monday.

Board Member Salvador Escalante Jr., secretary-general of Unega, was also present during the meeting.

"What will happen [on Wednesday] is that I will be nominated as the gubernatorial candidate for Love Negros and Rep. Ferrer will also be nominated as vice gubernatorial bet for Unega. It will be like a joint meeting of the groups," Lacson said.

He said all mayors, vice mayors, congressmen, and board members were invited to the event.

"There will be no announcement for local positions, only for governor and vice governor," he pointed out.

Lacson did not specify if there will be a "free zone" in some areas.

"A free zone or zona libre could also mean we could field our own candidates," he said.

He added that after the short program, there will be photo opportunity and press conference because the congressmen have to return to Manila to attend the sessions in Congress.
