STATUTORY-rape charges are now being readied against an ambulant vendor for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in Barangay 40, Bacolod City over the weekend.

Captain Portia Nillosan, head of Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said Tuesday, April 18, the 40-year-old suspect was arrested on Monday evening in Barangay Bata after the family of the victim sought the assistance of the police.

She said the family of the victim and the suspect were renting in the same house in Barangay 40.

She added the suspect used to pass by in the room of the victim and on Saturday morning, he called the victim to go with him inside his room where she was molested.

Nillosan noted that the victim used to borrow a charger of the cellular phone from the suspect and she did not expect that she would be molested.

He said the victim was threatened with a knife and she was told by the suspect not to create a noise or else he will kill her.

After molesting the victim, she said the suspect tried to escape towards Kabankalan City, but the victim immediately sought the assistance of her mother and reported the incident to Police Station 6 that led to the arrest of the suspect in Barangay Bata.

She added the result of the medical examination showed that the victim has lacerations on her private part which it’s an indication that she was molested by the suspect.

Nillosan disclosed that the suspect, who is detained at the custodial facility of Police Station 6, was previously charged for rape in Pampanga.*
