Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has asked the management of Baciwa-Primewater to submit an updated blueprint of all the water pipes in the city.

Benitez, who held a meeting with the officials of Baciwa-Primewater led by its general manager, Mona Dia Jardin, on Wednesday, August 23, said they discussed several issues which include the mitigation of water wastage to efficiently provide potable and enough water supply in Bacolod.

“It’s the source of our water non-revenue (water leaks from pipes) so we should focus on it to identify the areas of water leakages,” he said.

In order to identify the water leakages, he added that they need the blueprint of all the water pipes.

Benitez noted that he only found out on Wednesday that Baciwa-Primewater has no blueprint for all the water pipes.

“Our water pipes were installed in the 1970s and until now we don’t have a blueprint or map of the water pipes,” Benitez said.

He said Baciwa-Primewater should reconstruct the network of the water pipes or place it in the database so they would know how to upgrade or rehabilitate the water pipes.

He added that it’s very important to address the water leakages and the city is willing to help them to improve their services for their consumers.

If they fail to address this problem, Benitez disclosed that the city is also considering engaging with another concessioner so that the people will have options to consider in choosing the best provider for their water needs.*
