THE management of AVM-Bernardo slaughterhouse in Barangay Handumanan, Bacolod City has asked the City Government to authorize them to implement a 10-percent increase in slaughtering and delivery fees.
Councilor Dindo Ramos, chairperson of the City Council committee on laws, said Thursday, June 9, they already received the request of AVM-Bernardo to authorize them to increase 10 percent of the existing rate of their slaughter and delivery fees as stipulated in Section 16 of Article IV of their memorandum of agreement (MOA).
Ramos, however, said the City Council agreed that they will wait for the decision of the incoming administration to avoid malice.
“We deferred their request and it will be discussed by the next administration,” he added.
Ramos noted that the AVM-Bernardo is allowed to increase at least 10 percent as stipulated in Section 16 Article IV of the MOA.
“The City Council will only approve their request if they can justify their reasons to impose such increases,” Ramos said.
He said the reasons cited by the AVM-Bernardo for slaughter and delivery hike include the recent minimum wage increase for the private sector workers in Western Visayas, as well as the fuel increase.
“They have no choice but to increase their rates or else they will be operating at a loss,” he added.
AVM Bernardo slaughterhouse currently charges a P2.75 per kilogram slaughter fee and P0.25 centavos per kilogram delivery fee.
