Bacolod allocates P10 million to renovate SDC

THE City Government of Bacolod has allocated P10 million for the renovation of Social Development Center (SDC) building in Barangay Taculing that will be implemented next year.

Executive Assistant Samuel Montoyo, cluster head on SDC, said the building needs to be repaired to ensure the safety of the children in conflict with the law (CICL) and children at risk (CAR).

“We need to improve the SDC’s building including the admin office to ensure the safety of the CICL and CAR as well as to avoid irregularities inside the facility,” he said.

This month, about eight house parents at SDC were replaced for tolerating the misdemeanors of the CILC and Car inside the facility.

“Investigation revealed that they were allowing children to escape as well as the entry of illegal drugs, in-house prostitution, rental of cellular phone and bringing foods outside the facility which were all violations of the center’s rules and regulations,” Montoyo said.

He said he already asked P2 million budget for the immediate repair of the SDC’s fence and additional deployment of Public Order and Safety Office personnel in the area.

Aside from the eight house parents, Montoyo added that there were four regular employees assigned at SDC who are also subject for investigation.

Roselyn Rubrico, head of SDC, earlier said they have a total of 15 house parents assigned at SDC and eight of them have been replaced this month after committing some violations.

Of eight, five of them were not retained by the city while three others were reassigned to other departments.

At present, SDC has a total of 35 CICL and CAR. Nineteen of them were facing drug charges while others were facing robbery, murder, and attempted homicide.
