BACOLOD City ranked 19th among the Top 28 Safest Cities in Southeast Asia, according to a popular travel website as reported by RMN Radio Tuesday.

Numbeo, the world's largest database of user-contributed data about cities and countries worldwide, ranked the cities of Southeast Asia based on how its website visitors perceived the living conditions of its cities, including the cost of living, housing indicators, health care, traffic, crime, and pollution.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said, "This is good news for us in Bacolod as this will enhance the investors' confidence in our city. This will also promote tourism, and is good for our economy and image."

Aside from Bacolod, nine other Philippine cities made it to the Top 28 list, including Valenzuela City—2nd; Davao City—3rd; Baguio City—5th; Makati City—6th; Cagayan de Oro—7th; Cebu City—13th; Iloilo City—14th; Quezon City—23rd; and Manila—26th.

The list was topped by city-state Singapore.

According to its website, Numbeo said safety in walking alone during daylight in Bacolod City is High (67.71 percent), while safety in walking alone during nighttime here is Moderate (41.67).

These data are based on perceptions of visitors of the website in the past three years, Numbeo added.

If the value is 0, it means it is perceived as very low, and if the value is 100, it means it is perceived as very high.

It can be recalled that Bacolod City was also chosen as the 2017 Top Philippine Model City by The Manila Times. (PR)
