THE Bacolod City Council has approved a resolution requesting the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) to include burial assistance among the items authorized in the utilization of its monthly donation to the city.
The resolution, authored by Councilor Renecito Novero, was approved during the regular session of the City Council on Wednesday afternoon, February 8, 2023.
Novero, chairperson of the City Council committee on human rights, said Pagcor extends a monthly donation to the city.
He said among the purposes for the utilization of said monthly Pagcor donation, burial assistance is not mentioned.
He added that indigent residents of Bacolod who suffer from the grief of departed loved ones would find their crisis aggravated by a lack of financial resources that will provide for the expenses of burying their dead.
Novero said that in order to avoid possible legal complications from the utilization of the Pagcor donation and at the same time address the basic necessities of the poor residents of Bacolod in their times of bereavement, it would be expedient to include burial assistance among the items authorized for utilizing the monthly Pagcor donation to Bacolod City.
