THE City Government of Bacolod has deferred the implementation of the night market at Mercedes and Amelia Streets at the Libertad Public Market, City Legal Officer Romeo Carlos Ting, Jr. said Friday, July 7.

Ting said the Department of the Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is still conducting road construction in the area so they need to postpone the conduct of the night market.

“We will wait for the completion of the project so we can have our night market,” he said.

He added the project was occupying one lane so they need to close the area.

The City Council earlier approved a resolution to designate Amelia and Mercedes Streets in Barangay 40 along the Libertad Public Market as a venue for the daily night market from 6 p.m. until 5 a.m.

Councilor Celia Matea Flor, chairperson of the City Council committee on markets, earlier said that they will prioritize the market vendors who failed to get a stall inside the Libertad Public Market.

"We already explained to our market vendors that those who will not be accommodated will be allowed to occupy a space in the night market that will start from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.,” she said.

Of the 91 stalls at the Libertad Public Market Annex Building, the Local Market Committee already raffled off 57 stalls, which were participated by at least 287 vendors, and they will hold another raffle for the 34 available stalls after some of the vendors who failed to submit their documents.*
