Bacolod market vendors urged to be responsible for their garbage

BACOLOD City Executive Assistant Ernie Pineda, head of market coordinating and monitoring task force, urged all the market vendors in the three big public markets to be responsible for their garbage.

This, after the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) earlier collected 2,512 sacks of garbage -- most of which were vegetables, fruits, plastics, and bottles -- following a declogging of drainages in various areas.

Pineda said Sunday, July 29, that the vendors in Burgos, Libertad and Central markets should segregate their wastes and avoid throwing it to the drainage.

“Let’s wait for the garbage collection of the city’s garbage hauler IPM Construction and Development Corporation so all of your garbage will be collected,” he said.

Pineda noted that during their meeting with the officers of vendors association, Department of Public Services, Bacolod Traffic Authority Office, City Legal Office Enforcement Team, City Health Office and Market Supervisors, all the vendors were reminded to maintain the cleanliness within their stalls.

“They should segregate their garbage properly and do not dump it anywhere. Let’s help clean our environment to address the flood problem,” Pineda said.

He said it is also the responsibility of the marketgoers to always keep their trash and put it on the trash can.

“We should help each other in maintaining the cleanliness of our city. We should be responsible of our garbage, let’s avoid throwing it in canals or drainages,” Pineda added.
