BACOLOD City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has designated Maricar Quiro as the officer-in-charge of the City Agriculture Office (CAO) effective July 25.

Benitez said Thursday, July 27, that Quiro, a supervising agriculturist, occupied the post of Atty. Goldwyn Nifras, who was suspended for 60 days.

He said he will hold a meeting with Quiro to determine her plans and program as the OIC of the CAO, adding that she should perform well.

On July 21, Nifras was charged with grave misconduct and preventively suspended by Benitez for 60 days for an alleged unauthorized rental of the city’s tractor without the issuance of receipts.

Nifras was given five days to submit his reply to the complaint filed against him.

He was allegedly collecting P4,500 as rental for the tractor from the farmers where P2,500 was allegedly paid to the operator of the unit and P2,000 for the gasoline.

Nifras also denied the allegations.

Benitez said that he will ask the City Legal Office (CLO) about the reply of Nifras in said complaint.

Aside from Nifras, he said they are still conducting a thorough investigation with other department heads and other employees who might be involved in illegal activities in the city.

“It’s a continuous investigation and monitoring to all of our employees,” he added.*
