Bacolod mayor urged to create anti-vandalism task force

A RESOLUTION requesting Mayor Evelio Leonardia to strictly enforce the anti-vandalism ordinance in Bacolod City was approved by the City Council during its regular session Wednesday, October 9.

Distrito said the City Government should enforce City Ordinance (CO) 534, Series of 2011, or the Anti-Vandalism Ordinance of 2011, to form a task force to sustain its implementation and to involve barangays, schools, non-government organizations, and civil society groups in its drive against vandalism.

"The City Government is already focusing its efforts in beautifying and imposing order all over the City. Thus, it is high time that the anti-vandalism ordinance must be implemented seriously," she said.

The councilor added that bridges, sidewalks, public and private walls, traffic signage, statues, waiting sheds, and even welcome arcs are being vandalized.

Distrito noted that CO 534 penalizes the act of vandalism, defined as the willful acts done that damage or deface the property belonging to another person or to the public.

"The Office of the City Mayor should form a task force that will ensure its strict implementation and apprehend the culprits behind this disturbing criminal act," she said.

She said the City Government of Bacolod shall promote cleanliness and stop the damaging and defacing acts, mostly committed by teenage gangs or unlawful individuals that practice vandalism.

Distrito said the law provides that the state values the dignity of every person, guarantees full respect for human rights, and promotes a just and dynamic social order.
