Bacolod officials to meet with authorities on Tan’s ambush

THE Bacolod City Government officials will meet with various law enforcement agencies to determine the identity of the suspects who ambushed Councilor Ricardo Tan and his wife Nita last week.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran said Friday, December 21, that Mayor Evelio Leonardia will set the date of the meeting with the Bacolod City Police Office, National Bureau of Investigation, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and other law enforcement agencies to determine the status of the case.

He said the meeting will also be attended by the members of the City Council.

“We want to immediately resolve the crime and to ensure that this incident will never happen again in Bacolod,” he added.

On December 14, Councilor Tan and his wife were ambushed by unidentified persons.

The couple came from Campuestohan Highland Resort, which they owned, in Talisay City when they were waylaid by three assailants who were onboard a white wagon type vehicle.

The assailants released rapid gunfire to the official’s vehicle. Both victims managed to survive the rapid fire and were able to drive to Police Station 5 in Barangay Granada where the city official asked for police assistance on their way to the hospital in Bacolod City.

Familiaran said the investigation is still ongoing and that motive of the incident has yet to be determined yet.

“Our authorities should act on this to bring into justice the perpetrators and to ensure the safety of our constituents,” he said.

The city council earlier condemned the ambush against their colleague as they called on the authorities to conduct a deeper probe on the incident.

Councilor Caesar Distrito said the police should do everything in their power to bring into the bar of justice the perpetrators of this crime against Councilor Tan and his wife.

He said the challenge is with the law enforcement agencies to solve this spate of killings and attempted killings so that the peace in Bacolod will return to normalcy.
