The City Government of Bacolod is now eyeing to purchase a 30-hectare property to be used as a sanitary landfill of the city in Barangay Felisa.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said Thursday, September 28, that it’s the requirement of the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) to purchase a 30-hectare lot area for the construction of the new sanitary landfill.
He said the request had already been submitted to the Solid Waste Management Board, adding that they had already identified the location in Barangay Felisa and were only finishing the documentation and the process to acquire the lot.
The mayor noted that they will purchase the lot from at least three property owners in Barangay Felisa.
Its fund is part of the P4.4 billion approved loan of the city government from the Development Bank of the Philippines.
“It’s the target of the city to have zero waste, and they will put up a centralized materials recovery facility (MRF) for waste segregation,” Benitez said.
He said the city will put up recycling plants at the landfill through the public-private-partnership-program (PPPP), adding that they already received a proposal from various companies for the construction of a recycling facility in Barangay Felisa.
The mayor also encouraged the residents to segregate their waste.*
