BACOLOD City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya urged the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to solve the killing incidents in the city.
Gasataya said Tuesday, February 25, the Philippine National Police (PNP) or the BCPO should exert more efforts to identify and arrest the suspects in the killings.
“The series of killing incidents here should be stopped. We are hopeful that our police will address this problem because this is not good to our city and to our people. It’s high time and we appeal to our authorities to solve these incidents,” he said.
He added it’s very important to identify and arrest the suspects to give justice to the families of the victims.
Gasataya noted that the national government is also providing support for the operation of the PNP.
On February 15, Police Corporal Eric Alcosaba was killed by unidentified assailants on corner Burgos-Circumferential Road, Barangay Villamonte.
He bought food in a fast food chain on Circumferential Road around 4:50 p.m. He was about to start his car, which was parked in the area, when four unidentified assailants, who were wearing bonnets, fired at him several times.
He managed to open his car and tried to escape, but he fell on the ground and one of the gunmen chased him and shot him again in the head at close range.
The victim sustained multiple wounds and died on the spot. The gunmen fled using a white vehicle.
From January 2020, about three persons were killed by unidentified assailants in Bacolod City and all suspects are still at-large.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia earlier ordered BCPO Director Colonel Henry Binas to conduct a thorough investigation to identify and arrest the men behind the killing of Alcosaba.
“We do not condone that (the killing) because it affects our peace and order. This incident should not happen again here,” he said.
He added BCPO should strengthen its investigation or create a task group to concentrate on the unsolved shooting incidents in the city.
“These (shooting) incidents were related to illegal drug war and the records on the drug war even in other places were executed by professionals (suspects) and it’s hard to arrest them, they know when to strike so that they will not be arrested,” Leonardia said.
