Benitez: Canoy to continue work at Peso

Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said that Executive Assistant Jovelyn Canoy will continue her work at Public Employment Services Office (Peso).

This, after Benitez earlier designated City Administrator Pacifico Maghari III as Peso head in addition to his duties as city administrator.

Maghari occupied the post of Canoy.

Benitez said it’s an additional responsibility for Maghari because it’s a requirement.

"In the meantime, since we don’t have a permanent head for Peso, the system will be concurrent, with Maghari as city administrator and Peso head,” he said.

He added that Canoy is still in-charge of all the activities and operations at Peso.

The mayor noted that they are still looking for an applicant to be a permanent head of Peso, but since it’s still banning (period), they can’t hire for now.

“Probably, we will wait for the end of the year or maybe next year,” Benitez said.

He said he also asked Canoy about the position, but she preferred to be an executive assistant.

Maghari earlier said that it's part of the validation of the national Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) assessment, and they are only complying according to the mandate of the law.

Since there's no permanent manager at Peso, Maghari explained that the provision states that, in the meantime, the city administrator will assume the post.

Canoy also said that per SGLG's requirement, the Peso manager should be in Salary Grade 24 and up, and for her part, she’s an executive assistant 2 with Salary Grade 17.*
