WITH the spike of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental, Bishop Patricio Buzon Buzon calls for cooperation with government authorities in the strict implementation of health protocols.

In his Sunday homily, Buzon urged the public to "take seriously the gravity of the situation."

"...Seriyoso ini... kun indi ini naton mapunggan, kon indi naton ini ma-stop, kaluluoy sa aton. And so, I ask everyone to take seriously the gravity of the situation and to cooperate with government authorities regarding strict compliance with protocol," he said.

The bishop emphasized hand hygiene, wearing of facemask in public, observance of social distancing and avoidance of gatherings as concrete steps to abate the further spread of the infection.

Buzon also asked for prayers, support and gratitude for frontliners.

“Aton man ipangamuyo ang aton mga frontliners kay damo sa ila na-discourage na, low morale. If you can contact them, even by text, assure them of our support of our appreciation and thanks and most of all of our prayers”, he noted.

On August 1, Buzon issued an advisory to all priests of the Diocese of Bacolod to include in their homilies for Sunday the Church's call for heightened awareness about Covid among the people, the need for strict compliance of health protocols and the need to pray for those suffering from the disease, for government official and frontliners - "all of which are demanded by our Christian duty."

"I am certain that God will get us through this pandemic because He cares. But he asks that we too care by doing the simple things needed to protect ourselves and our loved ones from the deadly virus," the church leader added. (PR)
