A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy passed away on Friday, April 14, at his school in Barangay Zone 4, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, after choking on a chocolate treat.

The Grade 2 pupil, whose name was withheld, asked for the help of his teacher after the candy became lodged in his mouth, Captain Gina Fernandez, deputy chief of the Cadiz City Police Station, said.

According to Fernandez, the victim was already bluish and pale and was unable to speak.

The hospital pronounced the victim dead.

Although chocolate candy wrappers were recovered inside the victim's bag, Fernandez claimed they were unable to determine what caused the victim to choke.

According to her, the victim's family decided against having an X-ray done.* (MPE)
