A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy died while his parents were injured after a tree fell on their Toyota Fortuner vehicle at Alangilan road in Barangay Granada, Bacolod City on Saturday.

Police identified the fatality as Ken Marion Peñaflorida, son of Pototan, Iloilo Councilor Kent Roger Peñaflorida and wife Maureen, who were also wounded.

Chief Inspector Sherlock Gabana, head of Police Station 5, said the Peñafloridas, together with their seven relatives, were on their way to Campuestohan Highland Resort.

A century-old mahogany tree fell on the front part of the moving vehicle at 1:25 p.m.

It probably fell due to strong winds, station chief said.

Gabana said the boy was sitting on his mother’s lap on the front seat.

When his father stepped on the brake as the tree fell, the boy hit the windshield.

The couple sustained minor injuries while the other passengers were unharmed.

The victims were brought to the hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead due to head injuries, Gabana said.
