BTAO waits bidding to privatize towing services

THE Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) is waiting for the approval of Mayor Evelio Leonardia to start the bidding on the privatization of the towing, clamping and impounding services provided to address the traffic problem in the city.

BTAO head Superintendent Luisio Acebuche said Tuesday, May 8, that they held a meeting with the mayor and the members of the City Council last week about the towing and clamping ordinance.

City Ordinance (CO) 338 is an ordinance regulating traffic, parking, towing and other transporting or commuting activities in Bacolod, and CO 09-17-818 is an ordinance establishing the tow-away zones in various streets of the city, allowing the impounding of vehicles through the issuance of impounding receipts.

Acebuche said in January, they requested the City Government to tap a private company to perform the clamping, towing and impounding services.

He said the City Government lacks equipment in clamping and towing illegally-parked vehicles.

“The private companies are well equipped to perform the towing, clamping and impounding of vehicles that are illegally-parked in various areas and this will be an advantage to the City Government,” he said.
