CADIZ CITY officials led by Mayor Patrick Escalante and Vice Mayor Lilia Decolongon, along with Second District Representative Leo Rafael Cueva and Second District Board Members Salvador Escalante Jr. and Samson Mirhan, led the inauguration of the newly constructed Cadiz City Arena and City Hall II Monday, July 2, as part of the city’s 51st charter anniversary.

The inauguration ceremony was followed by the oath-taking ceremony of the city’s newly elected barangay officials, officiated by Cueva while the newly elected Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials took their oath of office before Mayor Escalante.

The Cadiz Arena, named Don Bernardo Benedicto Community Center, with more than a thousand seating capacity, has state-of-the-art facilities and is fully air-conditioned.

Cadiz City’s Top Business and Real Property Tax Payers were also recognized during the program.

Among the Top 10 Business Tax Payers were Super Shopping Market, Inc., Helios Solar Energy Corp., Jollibee–Cadiz, VSL Philippines Inc., Mercury Drug Corp., Northern Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc., Mang Inasal, Pepsi Cola Products Phils. Inc., Avon Cosmetics Incorporated, UNO Factory Outlet.

Meanwhile, the City Hall II, which is the extension, will house the City Administration Office, Tourism Office, Social Welfare and Development Office, City Nutrition Office, and some national offices including the Department of the Interior and Local Government.

Rowena Guanzon, Comelec Commissioner and former mayor of Cadiz City, also attended the inauguration of the City Hall II.

The portraits of the past and present city mayors of Cadiz were also unveiled at the City Hall lobby, as part of the program.

Board Member Escalante Jr. lauded the barangay and local officials for working together for the good of their city.

“The City of Cadiz needs you to continue its legacy of progress, we have to sustain what we have started”, he said.

He also thanked the taxpayers for being diligent in paying their taxes.

He said that Cadiz City has the biggest share of local income to their annual budget, among other cities and municipalities in Negros Occidental.

Cueva said Cadiz is one of the progressive cities in the province and it is attributed to the sound management of the city’s local officials and the supportive community. (PR)
