Cauayan town mayor defends P10 terminal fee

CAUAYAN Mayor John Rey Tabujara has defended the terminal charges imposed by the municipal government on public utility jeepneys (PUJs).

Since the terminal complex is an economic enterprise project of the municipal government, a charge of P10 per day is collected from all PUJs that need to pass by the terminal to pick-up passengers, the mayor said.

"The P10 fee is already good for one day and not every time they pass by the terminal and pick-up passengers," Tabujara explained.

He said the collection of fees is covered with a municipal ordinance. It has gone through series of public hearings, he added.

"It has been ongoing since 2013 and I wonder why some would complain about it now,” Tabujara pointed out.

Usually, those who pay the parking fee are PUJs plying from the south to the north, he said.

Meanwhile, the tricycles are not being charged with parking fees for the use of the terminal, he said.
