THE board of directors of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) is supporting the request of the six mayors in Negros Occidental including Bacolod City to ask the National Electrification Administration (NEA) to postpone the plebiscite on the joint venture agreement between the power utility and Primelectric Holdings Inc.

Ceneco acting general manager Arnel Lapore said he and the members of the board are supporting the position of the mayors.

"There is a basis for it and we deem it proper to call the attention of the administrator of NEA," Lapore said.

He added that they leave it to the guidance of NEA on how to go about cleansing the master list of the member-consumers.

"They have personnel and IT (information technology) staff who can handle those matters," Lapore said.

The letter, dated July 3, is addressed to NEA administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda.

The letter was signed by Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez, Bago City Mayor Nicholas Yulo, Talisay City Mayor Jesus Antonio Neil Lizares III, Silay City Mayor Joedith Gallego, Murcia Mayor Gerry Rojas, and Salvador Benedicto Mayor Laurence Marxlen dela Cruz.

The mayors are within the franchise coverage of Ceneco.

They earlier reported that they received complaints from the member-consumers that their names were not included in the voter's list, some names in the list were already dead, while others have already relocated or could no longer be found.

A total of 192,188 Ceneco member-consumers were reported earlier as eligible voters.

The continuing JVA plebiscite has been scheduled by Ceneco on July 8 and 9.*
