Comelec pays poll workers

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) has completed the release of honorariums of those who served in the May 14 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, according to Provincial Supervisor Jessie Suarez.

Suarez said there were 19,046 who have served in the province during the elections.

The last batch, eight persons, who received their honoraria on Wednesday because they had problems with their cash cards.

Five of them are from Bacolod City, two from Victorias City and one from Escalante City, Suarez said.

Suarez said that the new guidelines from their central office stated that those who did receive their honoraria through the cash cards given them were sent and released through the election supervisor.

Meanwhile, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon reminds all candidates, the winners and the losers, to submit their Statement of Contributions and Expenditures.

She said that the candidates should reveal their sources of expenditures and how they spent it.

She admitted that the present law on election expenditures is somehow realistic that's why there is a move to amend it.

Under the election rules, each candidate in the Barangay and SK elections were only allowed to spend P5 per voter.

Statement of Contribution Expenditure is a thorough and comprehensive report about the campaign contributions and expenditures of political candidates.

According to the Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines, all electoral candidates and parties concerned are required to submit their respective SOCEs despite the outcome.

The filing of the Soce is extended until June 13 of the same year. Candidates who fail to comply within the given period will not be allowed to hold public office.
