Comelec releases cash cards for teachers

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday, May 16, released the cash cards containing the honoraria of teachers who served during the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections in Bacolod City.

City Election Registrar Mavil Majarucon-Sia said Bacolod has a total of 2,820 teachers who served as chairpersons and members of electoral boards in various polling precincts.

"Because of this number, we scheduled the release of the honoraria and we will finish first the 846 chairpersons of the electoral board at the Bacolod Arts and Youth Sports Center (Bays Center)," she said.

Comelec will also release today, May 17, the honorarium for the poll clerk and the third member including the Barangay Board of Canvassers (BBOC), Department of Education Supervisor Official (Deso) and support staff at the Bays Center.

Majarucon-Sia said the chairperson of the electoral board supposedly will receive P7,000, but they have a withholding tax of P350 and travel allowance of P475, which was already released to them during the election day.

"Their cash cards containing only P6,100 and we distribute to them the remaining P75," she said.

The poll clerk will also receive P6,000 with the deduction of the withholding tax.

Those who will avail the tax refund, Comelec required the teachers to fill out the sworn declaration that they are earning only P250,000 a year.

Meanwhile, Majarucon-Sia also expressed her frustration in this year's elections.

"In my 14 years in the Comelec, several elections have passed both national and local, but for me, this is the worst election in Bacolod. We have so many works, it is the first time that we have a big number of candidates for barangay captains, kagawads, as well as the SK and I sympathized with the members of of the BBOC," she said.

She added in the big barangays, BBOC were able to finish their job more than 24 hours.

Moreover, Comelec also received disqualification complaints against a candidate for barangay captain and kagawad of Barangay 37. (MAP)
