Comelec to reassign some ERBs

Some of the Election Registration Boards (ERBs) who have relatives running in the coming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) will be reassigned next month, Commission on Elections (Comelec) Provincial Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria said Thursday, September 14.

ERBs who have relatives running for a village or SK post are to be transferred to other villages instead to prevent them from influencing the results of the polls, Ananoria stressed.

He said the selection and training of ERBs and canvassing board members are ongoing, adding that seminars and training sessions will be conducted for them in the coming weeks until October.

Ananoria also assures that the wages of those serving during the election will be paid on time, but they will not be tax-free.

He also mentioned that some election paraphernalia, such as non-accountable forms, has already arrived, while others have been directly sent to the cities.

However, there are still some materials at the provincial Comelec office that need to be collected by the election officers.

As part of the ongoing preparations for the BSKE, it can be recalled that the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Nocppo) relieved 268 of their non-commissioned officers and a city police chief and reassigned them to other police units.

Nocppo spokesperson Capt. Judesses Catalogo said the relieved personnel were intended to safeguard the peace and order situation for the polls as well as comply with the Omnibus Election Code.*
