Lawmaker urges enforcement agencies to probe source of illegal drugs

BACOLOD City Councilor Ricardo Tan urged the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drugs Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to conduct an in-depth investigation on the possible source of drugs transported to Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

Tan, chairperson of the City Council committee on police matters, said the law enforcement agencies should conduct an investigation on the proliferation of illegal drugs not only in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental but also in other parts of the country.

He said PDEA-Western Visayas director Emerson Margate had earlier said the supply of shabu, such as the six kilos in San Carlos City worth P72 million, the two kilos in Barangay Singcang-Airport in Bacolod estimated to be worth P5.1 million, and the two kilos in Dumaguete City worth P23.6 million may have come from abroad, considering they all have “almost the same packaging.”

Margate further alleged they appear to have passed through the backdoor from Malaysia to the Zamboanga Peninsula and were transported here, the councilor said.

Tan disclosed that authorities expressed the possibility that prohibited drugs that reach Negros Island and other regions in the country may have come from Malaysia or somewhere else. (MAP)
