Covid-19 survivors urged to donate plasma

THE Bacolod City Council approved a resolution requesting all persons who have recovered from coronavirus disease (Covid-19) to donate plasma for Covid-19 patients.

The resolution also appealed to the Bacolod City mayor to grant financial assistance to probable donors.

The resolution was authored by Councilor Simplicia Distrito.

Distrito said the convalescent plasma therapy is a procedure where blood from people who have recovered from an illness, such as Covid-19, are used to help others recover.

She said the blood donated by patients who have recovered from Covid-19 have antibodies to the virus that boost their ability to fight the virus.

"In most countries, plasma therapy has been found to be an effective means being applied in treating moderate and severe Covid-19," she added.

As of September 13, Bacolod City has 2,574 Covid-19 cases with 988 recoveries.

"In the spirit of 'Bayanihan' and to help in the decline of deaths that this pandemic brought upon us, this august body appeals to those who recovered from Covid-19 to donate their blood plasma through the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) and the City Health Office for proper administration," Distrito said.

She said the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) through the City Health Office and the Liga ng mga barangay may create a list of the volunteers, indicating their contact numbers and addresses that can be shared with all the hospitals.
