Creation of task force for price monitoring urged

BACOLOD City Councilor Ricardo Tan urged the City Mayor's Office and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to organize a joint task force to monitor the proper pricing of fuel and other prime consumer products in the city.

Tan said the prices of fuel and other prime commodities have recently risen up, especially during this opening of classes.

"Some business establishments are likewise to have taken advantage of this situation by unilaterally increasing the prices of fuel and commodities, beyond the prescribed ceiling of the DTI and other government agencies," he said.

Tan noted that in order to protect the interest of the vast majority of the people of Bacolod, it is necessary that the local government, under the leadership of Mayor Evelio Leonardia, should have initiative by joining forces together with the national agencies in establishing a price monitoring team.

Tan said the members of the price monitoring team should also file charges against the violators.

Meanwhile, Tan is also requesting the Bacolod City Water District (Baciwa) through the City Mayor's Office to initiate a viable and immediate solution to the water problem in Bacolod.

Tan said it's been already a long time, Baciwa has never stood up to its promise to solve the water problem here.

He said several years have passed when Baciwa consistently promised the officials of Bacolod that entering into a contract with bulk water supplier will solve the water problem.

"But, since the time the contract was signed with the bulk water, no improvement is yet being felt up these days," Tan added.

Tan disclosed that the local leadership of Bacolod has an obligation to intervene and to direct Baciwa to keep up its promise to the people to deliver clean and potable water to each and every household consumers continuously.(MAP)
