Cyberlibel suspect yields

A WOMAN accused of cyberlibel filed by the chief of staff of the Victorias City mayor surrendered to local police Thursday, November 22.

Donna Ditching is facing five counts of libel suit filed against her by Dino Acuña.

Ditching allegedly used social media to lambast the complainant and those who were identified with him, causing them stress, sleepless nights, and public ridicule.

She also completed the paperwork at the local court in Silay City for her temporary liberty.

Acuña, for his part, did not discuss the merits of the case but he confirmed that there were five warrants of arrest issued by Branch 69 of the Regional Trial Court in Silay City on November 12 against Ditching. The bail was set at P48,000 for each count.

“I sought refuge from the court because this person took advantage by making irrational, senseless, derogatory statements intended to destroy my reputation and my person and that of my family for more than a year now in the social media, which are libelous,” he said.

He said the City Prosecutor's Office of Victorias found a probable cause to elevate the complaint to a criminal case in court.
