DILG to conduct training for barangay officials

THE Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will conduct training for the barangay officials in Bacolod City from August 28 to September 13.

Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag, director of DILG-Bacolod, said the agency, through the Local Government Academy (LGA), has implemented capacity development programs for barangay officials upon their election and assumption to office.

She said the 2018 Barangay Newly-Elected Officials (BNEO) program towards Grassroots Renewal and Empowerment for Accountable and Transparent (Great) barangay program is a comprehensive, term-based capacity development program that focuses on barangay officials elected on the May 14 elections.

She said the program is designed to meet the challenges of reinvigorating the political and administrative leadership at the community and barangay level, and to prepare barangays their officials in actively fulfilling their roles and their relevance to development.

Madayag noted that the objective of the program is to ensure that the elected barangay officials will gain an appreciation and will show improvements in their personal, managerial, and leadership skills to perform their mandated tasks and responsibilities.

The training will be conducted in three batches. On August 28 to 30, it will be attended by officials from Barangays 19, 20, 23, 26, 33, Alangilan, Alijis, Cabug, Felisa, Estefania, Granada, Handumanan, Montevista, Mansilingan, Pahanocoy, Punta Taytay, Singcang-Airport, Sum-ag, Tangub, and Villamonte.

On September 4 to 6, officials from Barangays 21, 22, 24, 25, 27, 28, 30, 32, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 41, Bata, Banago, Mandalagan, Taculing, and Vista Alegre will attend.

On September 11 to 13, officials from Barangays 1 to 18, 31 and 40 will attend the training.

The barangay officials will pay P3, 600 registration fee for the said activity.

Madayag disclosed that at the end of the orientation, the participants are expected to come up with barangay agenda for governance and development, monitoring, and evaluation that shall be done on a regular basis to monitor the program of the implementation of the program. (MAP)
